Not all coffee beans perform the same in every machine.
Super-automatic espresso machines typically work best with medium to medium-dark roasted whole bean coffee (NOT oily) that produces balanced extraction and consistent crema. Semi-automatic and prosumer machines give you more flexibility, allowing you to experiment with lighter specialty roasts or espresso blends containing Robusta for added body and crema.
If you’re unsure which coffee is ideal for your machine, our team can guide you based on:
- Machine type (super-automatic, semi-automatic, prosumer)
- Roast level (light, medium, dark)
- Arabica vs Robusta blends
- Desired flavor profile (nutty, chocolatey, bright, fruity)
Whole Bean vs Ground Coffee
For the best espresso quality, we strongly recommend whole bean coffee whenever possible.
Freshly ground coffee preserves aroma, flavor complexity, and crema production. Pre-ground coffee can lose volatile aromatic compounds quickly after opening.
If you’re using a machine with a built-in grinder, always use whole beans for optimal performance and taste.
